Heinrich Anton Alexander von Zur Westen , also Heinrich Anton Alexander von Zurwesten (born April 20, 1784 in Höxter , † June 27, 1843 in Cosel ) was Prussian major general and most recently the commandant of the Cosel Fortress .

Life

origin

His parents were Georg von Zur Westen and his wife Maria Judith Mertens. His father was a Prussian tribunal councilor and a princely oranien-Nassau government councilor.

Career

He got his education at the high school in Höxter. In 1804 he went into Austrian service as a cadet . From there he went after the lost Fourth Coalition War on March 3, 1808 as a Souslieutenant in Westphalian services . He came first in the 3rd Infantry Regiment, but then as a second lieutenant in the Guard Chasseur Battalion. With the battalion he took part in the Fifth Coalition War against Austria. In 1810 he became a captain, adjutant and eventually major in the 8th Infantry Regiment. In Napoleon's Russian campaign of 1812 , he fought near Vyasma and in the battles near Krasnoye and the Berezina .

With the beginning of the campaign in 1813 , he changed on March 1, 1813 as a captain in the 2nd Infantry Regiment of the Russian-German Legion . He fought with the Legion in the Battle of the Göhrde , in the battle near Neuland and in the battles near Wavre and Ligny . On July 1, 1814, the Legion switched to Prussian service, where he was appointed captain with a patent on May 7, 1813 in the 31st Infantry Regiment .

On December 6, 1816 he was promoted to major and on March 18, 1820 appointed battalion commander. On November 12, 1820 he became President of the Examination Commission for Ensign and also director of the 8th Division School. On March 20, 1832, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class, and on March 30, 1832, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. In 1833 he also received the service cross . On March 30, 1834, he was posted as a colonel and served at the War Ministry, for which he received an allowance of 300 thalers a year. In the ministry he was appointed head of the army department on October 25, 1834, which earned him a salary of 2,600 thalers. On March 20, 1838, the king appointed him commander of the Cosel Fortress. There he was promoted to major general on September 10, 1840. In addition, on January 22, 1843, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves . He died on June 27, 1843 in Cosel and was buried on June 29, 1843 in the local cemetery.

Lieutenant General von Natzmer wrote in his assessment in 1831: Highly recommended for a higher post. Scientific education, a clear mind, solid character, tireless diligence and reliability in all business make him an excellent staff officer and also suitable for regimental commander. He would also be very useful for higher conditions in the general staff, and as director of the division school he has made himself very useful for many years.

family

He married on August 8, 1817 in Königsberg in Prussia Cölestine Aurora Niederstetten (February 4, 1790 - November 20, 1843), a daughter of the Niederstetten Privy Council. The couple had several children:

After both parents died, General Count Brandenburg was appointed guardian by the king. For the upbringing of the children, the king provided the eldest daughter with an allowance of 200 thalers a year.
