Heinrich August Hahn (theologian)

Heinrich August Hahn (born June 19, 1821 in Königsberg i. Pr .; December 1, 1861 in Greifswald ) was a German Protestant theologian and university professor.

Life

Hahn's father was August Hahn , associate professor of theology and general superintendent for the old Prussian church province of Silesia. He moved with his family to Leipzig in 1826 and on to Breslau in 1833 . Hahn's mother was Christiane (1799–1881), daughter of Wolf von Brück auf Dahme, a Saxon captain. He had four other siblings. Ludwig Hahn (1823–1903), professor of theology in Berlin, is known of these .

He was prepared for the upper classes of the Elisabet Gymnasium in Breslau, which he attended from 1836, through private lessons . In 1839 he went to study at the University of Breslau and in 1843 moved to the University of Berlin . In 1844 he returned to Breslau and received his doctorate in philosophy in Königsberg. In 1845 he was licentiate in theology in Breslau and completed his habilitation in the same year. In the following year he completed his habilitation at the suggestion of the local theological faculty at the University of Königsberg , where he was initially able to take over the position of the late Christoph Hävernick . In 1851 he was appointed associate professor of theology at the Royal University of Greifswald . He received his theological doctorate in 1856 at the faculty there. In 1861 he became the successor to the late Gottfried Kosegarten and received his professorship. Shortly afterwards he passed away.

Act

Heinrich August Hahn was an astute and conscientious exegete of the Old Testament in the spirit of strict orthodoxy , whose dogmatic character clung to the older church traditions. His lectures were mainly devoted to Old Testament exegesis, introduction and theology as well as Hebrew antiquities, and in later years the explanation of the New Testament letters was added. With Franz Delitzsch he edited and completed Christoph Drechsler's The Prophet Isaiah . Translated and explained.
