Heinrich Bauer (fencer)

Heinrich Bauer (* 1866 ; † after 1938) was a German fencer and multiple winner of the association tournaments of the Gauverband Mittelrheinischer fencing clubs . He fought at the Frankfurt gymnastics community and later also belonged to the fencing club Hermannia Frankfurt .

Bauer started fencing in 1888. He won the gymnastics festivals in 1894 in Breslau and in 1908 in Frankfurt. Furthermore, he won several times the Gauverband festivals of the Gauverband Mittelrheinischer fencing clubs, which can be viewed as the forerunners of the German championships . In 1898 he won the Association Festival in Rüdesheim with a saber and bat, and in 1903 he won in Bürgel with a saber. In 1899 he was able to win an honorary award in Wiesbaden in all three fought disciplines ( foil , saber and bat ) - a success that no other fencer could repeat. His last tournament was the 1913 German Gymnastics Festival in Leipzig .

Bauer belonged to a fencing family, his brother Willi Bauer and his son Albert as well as several other relatives also fought. Professionally, he was the owner of a sports store in Frankfurt am Main .
