Heinrich Willy Dörfelt (born August 12, 1899 in Schneeberg (Ore Mountains) , † December 8, 1967 ) was a German folk artist and is considered one of the old masters of wood carving in the Ore Mountains .

Life

He was the son of a sticker from the Saxon Erzgebirge . After attending school, he did an apprenticeship as a model maker from 1914 to 1917. He then worked in the Kircheis training company. During this time he joined the Bergverein Schneeberg in 1918 and in 1922 became a member of the carving and handicraft department of the association, the later carving community “ mallets and irons ”. In 1928 he took over the chairmanship of the carving community, which he held with interruptions until 1951.

In 1932 he moved to the district town of Schwarzenberg / Erzgeb as a model maker . He returned to Aue in 1936 , where he worked as a carpenter until the end of the war in 1946. During this time, Heinrich Dörfelt took over the honorary management of the Schneeberger Heimatmuseum as a former SPD member immediately after the end of the war and supported the work of the Schneeberger Heimatverein, of which Curt Unger was an active member .

He had already learned to carve as a teenager and in 1916 he created twelve sheep, which he sold in a toy shop in Aue in order to earn money for a Christmas present to his parents. Carving as a hobby has not let go of him since that time.

In 1946 Heinrich Dörfelt built a small carving workshop in the attic of his house, which he added in 1951 with a new building in the yard, where modern machines were located. Numerous carved and turned figures, candle arches and Christmas pyramids were created here . One of these pyramids received a prize at the folk art exhibition in 1952. As a novelty, he created a combination between Schwibbogen and Christmas pyramid in 1958.

In 1959 he joined the PGH "Glück Auf", which consisted of eight carvers and two wood turners. Increasing illness forced him to stop his artistic work. He died at the age of 68.
