family

He was the son of Daniel Gottfried von Kalben (* 1671), landlord of Schmoor and Wollenhagen, and his wife Agnes Dorothea von Alvensleben (* May 1683; † 1761). He was married to Katharina Elisabeth von Eyff and had two daughters with her.

Life

In 1740 he was transferred from the Cuirassier Regiment No. 4 to the Garde Du Corps. Until 1742 he was Rittmeister in Hussar Regiment No. 6 (Hobitz), but was then involved in a duel and had to leave the Prussian army . So he became a major in the Saxon army . In 1756 he returned to the Prussian army, was appointed lieutenant colonel and went to Reichenbach in Vogtland , where he set up his free battalion. He fell in the battle of Leuthen or (according to other sources) shortly before in the battle of Breslau. His successor as commander of the free battalion was Konstantin Nathanael von Salenmon .
