Heinrich Freistedt

Heinrich Freistedt (born September 2, 1903 in Essen , † August 26, 1986 in Stolberg ) was a German Roman Catholic priest and church music director in Aachen .

Life

Heinrich Freistedt was born as the second eldest son of four children of the Freistedt family in Essen-Borbeck . Two of his brothers (Emil and Franz) became priests. The politician Marino Freistedt , son of a Protestant woman from Königsberg and an Indian, was adopted as a child by Heinrich Freistedt at the age of four.

After graduating from high school, Heinrich Freistedt studied theology and musicology at Bonn University and in Friborg / Switzerland. He received his doctorate on " Liquescent Notes " with summa cum laude .

In 1929 he received the Cologne Cathedral , the priesthood and was initially Kaplan in Cologne-Wahn and Wuppertal-Elberfeld. In 1940 he was appointed director of the Catholic University for Church Music St. Gregorius in Aachen and held this position until his retirement in 1969. For thirteen years he was then a subsidiary in the parish of St. Donatus in Aachen-Brand. From 1982 until his death in 1986 he lived in the nursing home Haus Maria im Venn in Stolberg- Venwegen .

Heinrich Freistedt published next to a collection of self-composed church chants under the title Liedrufe der Gemeinde also the lamentation of the Kreuzweg im Weinberg (1956). Gregorian chant was his love . For many years he worked as a church music consultant and professor in priest training at the Aachen seminary . Heinrich Freistedt was also the recipient of awards from the German Cecilia Association .
