Heinrich Friedrich Innocentius Apel (born October 11, 1732 in Borna , † November 14, 1802 in Leipzig ) was a Saxon lawyer and in 1801 mayor of the city of Leipzig .

Career

Apel studied law at the University of Leipzig , where he was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD. In 1775 he was appointed to the electoral real court and judicial councilor. In 1778 he was elected to the City Council of Leipzig. In Leipzig he was city judge from 1793, builder from 1799 and from 1801 Scabinus ( judge ). In the same year he became mayor of the city.

From 1779 Apel was Canonicus , later Subsenior and Scholasticus of the Zeitz monastery . He was the owner of the manors Ermlitz , Trautzschen and Costewitz .

His youngest son was the lawyer and writer August Apel (1771-1816), his grandson the writer and founder Theodor Apel (1811-1867). Another grandson was Julius Freiherr von Apel (1805-1881), who embarked on a military career and made it to lieutenant general in the Saxon army.

Act as a donor

In 1800, Apel donated 2,400 thalers to the Thomas School , the interest of which was to be used to pay a math teacher. In his will he gave the Thomas School again with 1,600 thalers, the Ratsfreischule with 1,000 thalers, which were to be spent on clothing for needy pupils, and the apprentices of the tailoring and shoemaking trade with 600 thalers.
