Heinrich Hock (musician)

Heinrich Hock (born July 28, 1944 in Heidenheim ) is a German jazz drummer and music teacher.

From 1963 Hock completed jazz courses at the Remscheid Academy before studying at the Graz University of Music in 1967 and then at the Bremen Conservatory until 1969 . He first played in the avant-garde quartet of Joe Viera and Ed Kröger , with whom he appeared at international festivals and recorded the LP "Essay In Jazz" (1971). He also performed with Marion Brown , Attila Zoller , Gerd Dudek and the quartet of Rüdiger Carl / Irene Schweizer . Already in 1971 he founded the group “Staudamm” with Wolfgang Engstfeld and Uli Beckerhoff , from which in 1973 the successful formation “Jazztrack” emerged with Sigi Busch and keyboardists like Michel Herr or Christoph Spendel , which was invited to numerous festivals, also in Eastern Europe and recorded several records, u. a. "Flying Stork" (1978, with Norma Winstone ). He has also performed with Albert Mangelsdorff and with Peter Giger's Family of Percussion . From 1979 he worked in Toto Blankes "Electric Circus" and from 1981 with his own groups, with Ed Kröger's trio and from 1985 with the band "Bremen Calling". Currently he is mainly on the road as a drummer with the Rafael Jung Trio and the singer Britta Rex.

Hock has worked mainly as a drum teacher since around 1987. He has been teaching jazz drums at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media since 1972 . He wrote the drum school “Jazz Drum Rudiments” and the two volumes “all about drumming”.
