Heinrich I (* 1232 ; † 1278 ) was a count of Vaudémont . He was a son of Count Hugo III. and Margarete von Bar.

Around 1252 he married Marguerite de la Roche, daughter of Guido I. de la Roche , grand lord of Thebes and Athens . Your children were:

  • Rainald († 1279), Count of Vaudémont and Ariano
  • Henry II († 1299), Count of Vaudémont and Ariano
  • Jakob († 1299), Lord of Bainville-aux-Miroirs
  • Guido († 1299), canon in Toul
  • Katharina, ∞ with Carlo di Lagonessa, Seneschal of Sicily
  • Margarete, ∞ with Tomasso II. Di Sanseverino, Count of Marsico

Heinrich was initially under the tutelage of his stepfather, Heinrich von Bois, until he was declared of age in 1247. He took part in the Sixth Crusade (1248-1250) to Egypt . Together with Count Theobald II of Bar , he supported the Bishop of Toul in suppressing the revolt of the citizens of Toul in 1251 . In the Flemish War of Succession he took the side of the House of Dampierre , but suffered a defeat on July 4, 1253 in the battle of Westkapelle against the Counts John I of Hainaut and William II of Holland . After the death of the Bishop of Metz , Jakob von Lothringen , in 1260 a war broke out between the Count of Bar and the Duke of Lorraine for his successor, in which Heinrich sided with Bar.

Heinrich and his eldest son served Prince Karl of Anjou , whom they accompanied to Italy in 1265 to conquer the Kingdom of Sicily . Heinrich moved with Karl to the Seventh Crusade in North Africa in 1270 and, on their return in 1271, was entrusted with the county of Ariano and appointed Vicar General of Tuscany . He died while on a diplomatic mission in Greece.
