Heinrich Ilgenstein

Heinrich Ilgenstein (born June 3, 1875 in Memel ; died April 5, 1946 in Gentilino near Lugano ) was a German playwright, novelist, and publicist.

Life

Ilgenstein was the son of the merchant Julius Ilgenstein and Ida, nee. Mayer. After attending the Latin grammar school in Memel, he studied literary history, history and new languages ​​in Berlin , Munich and Tübingen . After receiving his doctorate in philosophy, he worked as a magazine editor and playwright. With the theologian Albert-Kalthoff-Bremen, he founded the weekly Das Blaubuch , which he merged with The Present in 1912 . He lived in Berlin and Freiburg im Breisgau .
