Life

Heinrich Klier wrote well-selling novels as early as the 1950s, most of which were published by Kremayr & Scheriau for the Donauland book club, and later mainly mountain and hiking guides. In the 1960s, Klier was active as a member of the South Tyrolean Liberation Committee and was involved in bomb attacks by the South Tyrolean independence movement. He was sentenced in absentia to 21 years imprisonment for the demolition of the equestrian statue of Benito Mussolini in Waidbruck on July 16, 1964. Klier later distanced himself from the extremist positions of his fellow campaigners and was pardoned in 1998 by the then Italian President Oscar Luigi Scalfaro .
