Heinrich Linzen (born September 8, 1886 in Burtscheid , † July 10, 1942 in Weimar ) was a German landscape and animal painter . He worked in Aachen and Weimar.

Life

Heinrich Linzen was born as the son of the merchant and dialect poet Leonhard Linzen, who is known in Aachen . He was a pupil of the sculpture school of Karl Krauss and the painters Eugène Klinckenberg , Karl Josef Gollrad and Hermann Krahforst . Linzen attended the Berlin Art School, where he passed the drawing teacher exam for higher education institutions. Then he attended the Grand Ducal Saxon Art School in Weimar . He later became a student of Fritz Mackensen and a master student of Walther Klemm and was also trained at the Weimar Bauhaus .

In 1918 Heinrich Linzen married the artist Hilde Linzen-Gebhardt, one of the most important portrait painters of the 1920s in Weimar, with whom he had their son Dietrich. From 1912 to 1916 Hilde Linzen-Gebhardt was also a student at the Grand Ducal Art School in Weimar near Mackensen and the American impressionist Gari Melchers . In 1920 she received her first commission from Walther Klemm, namely to paint the children of the textile industrialist Paul Schulenburg. Over the next few years, the artist couple received additional commissioned works from the Schulenburg family, which will be presented as a permanent exhibition in Haus Schulenburg along with numerous other works, including the painting drafts for the vaults in Gera's town hall .

Heinrich Linzen was primarily a landscape and animal painter. His fresco and sgraffito works in public buildings in Jena, Gotha, Weimar and Gera are outstanding . For example , the historical designs for the large vaults of the Gera town hall, painted in gouache colors in 1940 , were made by him. Furthermore, graphic portfolios, book illustrations and commercial graphics have been preserved.
