Heinrich Maschek OSB (born February 8, 1832 in Retz ; † May 5, 1916 in Vienna ; actually Johann Maschek ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic schoolboy .

Life

After studying high school in Znojmo , Maschek joined the Scots Abbey in Vienna in 1853 . He studied theology and classical philology at the University of Vienna . In 1858 he was ordained a priest, after which he worked for some time in pastoral care. From 1865 to 1867 he was prefect of the choir boys. At the Schottengymnasium , where he had previously worked as an assistant and supplement , he taught Latin and Greek from 1867 to 1898 as a permanent professor .

Maschek is considered to be the last representative of the older philological direction at the Schottengymnasium, which placed the main emphasis on the grammatical side. He gained importance as the editor of later editions of the two textbooks Latin reading and exercise book for the second grammar school class (8th edition 1877) and the theoretical-practical Latin elementary book for the first grammar school class (10th edition 1878) of his brother Maurus Schinnagl .
