Heinrich Reese (medical doctor)

Heinrich Reese (born February 19, 1879 in Basel , † June 28 or July 4, 1951 in Turkey ) was a Swiss doctor and botanist . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Reese ".

Life

The son of basel-urban cantonal architect and later Governing Henry Reese studied medicine and received his doctorate in 1903 at the Basel University . He worked as a doctor in Basel . He specialized in neurology abroad. From 1909 to 1919 he worked in the Bellevue sanatorium in Kreuzlingen . From 1920 to 1950 he was an adjunct at the health department of the canton of Basel-Stadt.

Reese studied the flora of the Mediterranean and the Orient. He described 32 new plant species, most of them together with Arthur Huber-Morath . This named Reese in honor of several plant species, including the sweet clover Hedysarum reesei and the Königskerzenart Verbascum reeseanum named.

Reese died on a trip to eastern Turkey. He is buried in the Christian cemetery in Elazığ .
