Heinrich Romberg

Heinrich Maria Romberg (born April 4, 1802 in Paris , † May 2, 1859 in Hamburg ) was a German violinist , conductor and composer .

life and work

Heinrich Romberg was the eldest son of the violinist and composer Andreas Romberg . He received his first violin lessons from his father, with whom he also went on concert tours between 1816 and 1820. After the death of his father in 1821, he went to Paris, where he was taught by Pierre Baillot , among others . From 1827 he worked at the Deutsches Theater in Saint Petersburg as concertmaster and later as opera conductor. Together with his brother, the cellist Cyprian Romberg , he was also a trio partner of Princess Olga . In 1848 he resigned from his post and lived in Hamburg until his death.

Heinrich Romberg left behind some compositions that are mainly dedicated to the violin, but also include sacred music.
