Heinrich Schiess

Heinrich Schiess (born May 26, 1852 in Herisau ; † April 16, 1934 in Zollikon ; resident in Herisau) was a Swiss textile entrepreneur and cantonal councilor from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Heinrich Schiess was a son of Heinrich Schiess, employee of an embroidery company and drum major , and Anna Katharina Engler. In 1875 he married Emma Bänziger, daughter of Bartholome Bänziger, baker . He entered into a second marriage in 1878 with Louise Leuch, seamstress , daughter of Tobias Leuch, farmer . He married his third wife Frieda Holliger, landlady , daughter of Johann Jakob Gottlieb Holliger, in 1891. From 1872 to 1876 he worked as Fergermeister in Schwellbrunn . From 1876 to 1882 he was an embroidery manufacturer in Lutzenberg and from 1882 to 1922 in Herisau. He served as the actuary of the embroidery association and was the controller of the supplier association. From 1878 to 1882 and from 1891 to 1894 he was a member of the Ausserrhoder Cantonal Council . From 1887 to 1894 he was fire department commander in Herisau. From 1893 to 1903, as a Zurich fire department inspector, he was responsible for reorganizing the city's fire department . From 1905 to 1912 he was in command of the 7th Division and from 1914 to 1916 the Hauenstein Fortress. From 1890 to 1896 he presided over the Appenzell Officers' Society .
