Heinrich Thomas von Karcher (until 1813 Heinrich Thomas Karcher ; born January 24, 1773 in St. Johann (today: Saarbrücken ), † July 24, 1824 in Paris ) was diplomatic representative for Hesse-Kassel , Würzburg and Tuscany in Paris.

Life

Heinrich Thomas von Karcher was the third son of the St. Johann merchant Johann Christian Karcher (born January 11, 1735 in St. Johann; † December 4, 1786 ibid.) And his wife Maria Justinia geb. Rhinelander (born September 11, 1737 in Kirn, † August 10, 1824 in St. Johann). Following his father, he learned the trade and was born in Basel in 1795 by the Hesse-Kassel baron Friedrich Sigismund Waitz von Eschen for the Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel Wilhelm IX. who hired him in 1796 as agent de commerce in Paris.

Von Karcher served the landgrave until around 1807, after which he did not appear again in literature as the Würzburg legation secretary until 1812. Since that time he served Grand Duke Ferdinand III. (This was Grand Duke of Tuscany, Elector of Salzburg and Elector and Grand Duke of Würzburg). In 1813, Grand Duke Ferdinand III. Karcher joined the Order of St. Joseph he founded in Würzburg and awarded him the Knight's Cross. With this, Karcher was raised to the nobility.

Karcher was involved in the handover negotiations, in which Würzburg was returned to Bavaria and Tuscany to Ferdinand III. went. At the Congress of Vienna in 1815 he participated as a representative of the Allied headquarters for Tuscany. After July 1814 he was Chargé d'affaires for Tuscany in Paris. From September 1816 he was employed as chargé d'affaires in Paris for Tuscany as well as for Elector Wilhelm I for Hessen-Kassel. In 1818 Karcher took part in the Aachen Congress as an observer, at least for Hessen-Kassel .

In 1818 he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of St. Joseph, who had moved to Florence, for his services in handling the loans between Tuscany and France . He was also the bearer of the Commander's Cross of the Hessian Order of Lions (July 10, 1817) and the Knight's Cross of the Austrian Order of Leopold . He died of a "respiratory illness" as Minister-Resident for Tuscany and Hessen-Kassel. He found his final resting place in the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris.

He left behind an attractive collection of illustrated books, bronzes and old graphics which were auctioned in January 1825.
