origin

Friedrich Sigismund Waitz von Eschen was born as the eldest son of the Upper Chamber Councilor Johann Friedrich Hilchen zu Nauheim and his wife Karoline Dorothea Magdalena. The maternal grandfather was Minister Jacob Sigismund Waitz von Eschen . Since his sons had all died and his daughter was the only one of his eight children who had survived, Jacob Sigismund Waitz von Eschen adopted his son-in-law and thus ensured the continued existence of his name.

Life

Friedrich Sigismund Waitz von Eschen was appointed War and Domain Council and Bergrat in 1770. In 1773 he was the youngest member of the newly formed general directorate of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel. His grandfather's falling out with Landgrave Friedrich II. 1773 initially ended the grandson's career. After the Landgrave had refused the request to transfer the management of the Landgrave's salt works from grandfather to grandson, Friedrich Sigismund asked Waitz von Eschen for a release from his offices. On September 30th, he was removed from office by the Landgrave. However, he remained connected to the Landgrave House. He was appointed secret legation councilor and was envoy to France.

Only after the death of his grandfather in 1776 was Friedrich Sigismund Waitz von Eschen again given an administrative function at the Kassel court. The Landgrave repeatedly used him diplomatically. In 1795 he succeeded in concluding the peace at Basel between Hesse and the French Republic . Landgrave Wilhelm IX. honored him in 1796 with the appointment as real secret minister of state and curator of the universities of Marburg and Rinteln. In 1804 he got his family accepted into the Hessian knighthood .
