Heinrich V, Count von Weilnau , was prince abbot of the Fulda monastery from 1288 to 1313 .

Life

His term of office was more political than church-oriented. He was an advisor to the kings Rudolf I , Adolf , Albrecht I and Heinrich VII. He conquered the castles Ebersberg , Ürzell (near Steinau an der Straße ), Poppenhausen and Geisa and was in feuds with the lords of Buchenau and Riedesel as well as the landgraves implicated by Hessen .

In 1290 he appointed Berthold von Buchenau as a castle man at Fürsteneck Castle .

In 1293 he summoned a general chapter of all Benedictine abbots in Germany to Fulda.

From 1294 he had the new Abtsburg built between the monastery area and the city on the site of today's city palace . He also had the collegiate church that had burned down under his predecessor Markward II von Bickenbach rebuilt.

Around 1300 there were still 58 monks living in his monastery.
