Heinrich Wedemhof (* 1524 in Münster ; † February 22, 1589 in Lübeck ) was a merchant and councilor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Heinrich Wedemhof was the son of the Münster councilor Johann Wedemhof . In 1588, shortly before his death, he was elected to the City Council of Lübeck. He was considered the richest citizen of the city of Lübeck in his time and his estate is estimated at around 200,000 marks Lübisch .

His epitaph in Lübeck's Marienkirche was carved in 1590 by the carver Jochim Wernecke and decorated with paintings by the Lübeck painter Johannes Willinges (approx. 1592). Since the destruction caused by the air raid on Lübeck in 1942, only the central image of the epitaph in the Marienkirche has been preserved. Before that, it was one of the outstanding epitaphs of the Marienkirche in terms of art history.

He was the father of councilor Bernhard Wedemhof († 1627) and Lübeck's mayor Heinrich Wedemhof . His grandson Heinrich († 1674) was also elected to the Lübeck council. These other members of the family were also set epitaphs in the Marienkirche. The mayor Alexander Lüneburg (politician, 1560) was his son-in-law.
