Prince Heinrich XIV. Reuss zu Greiz (born November 6, 1749 in Greiz ; † February 12, 1799 in Berlin ) was the Austrian ambassador to Prussia .

Life

Heinrich XIV. Was the younger son of Prince Heinrich XI. Reuss zu Greiz and his first wife, Countess Konradine Reuss zu Köstritz.

Heinrich XIV carried the title of prince, because when his father was raised to the rank of imperial prince, he was honored that all of his male descendants were allowed to accept the title of prince, but reigning Prince Reuss zu Greiz was Heinrich's older brother Heinrich XIII .

Because of his family's excellent contacts with the imperial family, Heinrich XIV was appointed Lieutenant Field Marshal and Austrian Ambassador to Prussia.

Heinrich frequented Sara von Grotthuis' salon in Berlin and met her sister Maria Anna Mayer (1775 / 76–1812) here. He married her in Königsbrück secretly and not befitting marriage in 1797. After his death, she was by Emperor Franz II. Raised to the "wife of Eybenberg" and later became a close friend of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe . The marriage remained childless.
