Henry XI. Prince Reuss older line, Graf and Mr. Plauen, Lord of Greiz, Kranichfeld, Gera, Schleiz and Lobenstein (* 18th March 1722 in Obergreiz ; † 28. June 1800 in Greiz ) from the Reuss was from 1723 reigning Count , from 1778 Prince of the Principality of Reuss older line , an imperial territory in the Holy Roman Empire .

Life

Henry XI. was a son of Count Heinrich II. Reuss zu Obergreiz (1696-1722) and his wife Countess Sophie Charlotte von Bothmer (1697-1748). He followed his brother Heinrich IX. 1723 as Count Reuss zu Obergreiz. His reign was extraordinarily long at over 77 years.

After the death of Count Heinrich III. Reuss zu Untergreiz 1768 also fell to Untergreiz. This allowed Heinrich XI. reunite the Russian holdings of the older line in his hand. He systematically redesigned the residence in Greiz, built the summer palace by 1769 and founded the court library.

On May 12, 1778 he was raised to the rank of imperial prince as Prince Reuss zu Greiz . His close ties to the Austrian imperial family are also reflected in the award of the Order of St. Stephen .

Henry XI. first married on April 4, 1743 in Köstritz Konradine (1719–1770), daughter of Count Heinrich XXIV. Reuss von Schleiz zu Köstritz, with whom he had the following children:

His second marriage to Alexandrine (1740–1809), daughter of Count Christian Karl von Leiningen-Dagsburg , whom he married on October 25, 1770 in Frankfurt am Main , remained childless.
