Heinrich von Mansdorf (* before 1419; † September 13, 1426 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was abbot of the St. Gallen monastery from 1419 to 1426 .

Life

Heinrich became abbot of St. Gallen after Konrad von Pegau resigned. The Pope Martin V appointed him. Before that he was provost of the Schkölen monastery in the diocese of Naumburg .

Act

Soon after taking office, on July 9, 1419, he confirmed the rights and freedoms of the city of St. Gallen, as the form stipulated. On August 10 and 11, 1419, he confirmed it to the city of Wil and on August 27 to the city of Wangen . Abbot Heinrich tried to improve the economic basis of his monastery. To this end, he wanted to settle the dispute with Appenzell , which had begun in the reign of Kuno von Stoffeln and culminated in the Appenzell War, in which St. Gallen was defeated. The Appenzeller refused all interest payments for 11 years. The seven towns held several legal days with no results and finally, on May 6, 1421, made an arbitration award, which Abbot Heinrich accepted, but the Appenzeller ignored. His request for support to King Sigmund was unsuccessful. On August 10, 1422, he confirmed to him all the fiefs, rights and freedoms of the monastery and warned the surrounding powers to take on the cause of the St. Gallen Abbey, but no one responded to this request. The church authorities finally supported Heinrich. The Domscholasticus von Speyer, Berchtold von Wildungen, took over the regulation of the Appenzell trade on December 10, 1425. On February 4, 1426, he asked the Appenzeller to submit within 30 days. The latter then declared themselves ready to negotiate, but too late; on April 10, 1426 they were banned from church. Abbot Heinrich died on the return journey from Speyer , where he had tightened the ban against the Appenzeller, in Freiburg im Breisgau. He was buried in St. Blasien.
