Heinrich von Tiedemann-Seeheim
Heinrich von Tiedemann-Seeheim (born October 22, 1843 in Dembogorsch near Putzig , † January 2, 1922 in Berlin ) was a German politician and chairman of the German Ostmarkenverein and grandfather of the journalist Heinrich von Tiedemann .
Life
His parents were Friedrich Wilhelm von Tiedemann (* March 1, 1789; † October 5, 1880) and his second wife, Rudolfine, née Pape (* July 21, 1809; † July 21, 1886).
He came from a Prussian officer family and also entered the military. As an infantry officer he took part in the German War in 1866 and in the Franco-German War in 1870/71 . In 1872 he married a daughter of the Berlin businessman von Hardt. In 1881 he took leave of the military as a captain because of poor career opportunities. He first worked in his father-in-law's company before he took over the manor Jeziorki ("small lakes") in the province of Posen , whose Polish name he renamed "Seeheim". He later acquired other properties and became one of the most important landowners in the Poznan province.
In 1894 he co-founded the Ostmarkenverein with Ferdinand von Hansemann and Hermann Kennemann . After the initial letters of the main founders, it was also known as the Hakatist Society. He headed this unchallenged as chairman until 1920. The association, initially supported by the former Chancellor Otto von Bismarck , among others , demanded from the government under Leo von Caprivi a stricter policy towards the Polish minority. The aim was to depolonize and Germanize the eastern Prussian territories. After the tightening of anti-Polish policy after the fall of Caprivi, Tiedemann expressly supported the government's course.
In addition to the pan-German association , the Ostmarkenverein under the leadership of Tiedemann was one of the most influential representatives of radical nationalist ideas during the German Empire . Tiedemann himself was a leader in the pan-German association.
