Heinrich Adalbert von Wlislocki , Henrik Wlislocki (born July 9, 1856 in Kronstadt , † February 19, 1907 in Klosdorf near Kleinkopisch, today: Șona ) was a Transylvanian linguist and folklorist .

The son of a Polish imperial tax officer and a Transylvanian Saxon woman attended the University of Cluj from 1875 to 1879 after graduating from Honterus-Gymnasium in Kronstadt . In 1879 he did his doctorate with the writing Hapax legomena in Atlamál , which was published in the journal Acta comparationis litterarum universarum = journal for comparative literature published by his academic teachers Hugo Meltzl and Sámuel Brassai . After the death of his father he worked in poor conditions as a tutor. From 1883 to 1890 he lived in Mühlbach (Sebeş).

In his special field of interest, tsiganology , he conducted an intensive literary collecting activity as well as field studies with Transylvanian migrant gypsies. He became a member of a clan and was temporarily married to a gypsy woman. As a researcher, he developed an excellent reputation. B. Charles Godfrey Leland in 1889 described him as probably the most familiar scholar with the life and language of the Gypsies.

From 1896 to 1898 he worked on Hans Ferdinand Helmolt's world history . In his last years, from 1899 onwards, he suffered from a mental illness and lived in care with his wife, a Hungarian teacher in Klosdorf near Kleinkopisch.

Wlislocki has published numerous articles in journals, including the Hungarian Review , the Journal of Comparative Literary History , the Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society , the Journal for German Philology and the Journal of the German Oriental Society . He also worked as a translator, translating Petőfi into Icelandic, János Vajda and K. Szász into German.
