Heinz D. Stuckmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinz D. Stuckmann (born October 2, 1922 ; † October 6, 2011 in Cologne ) was a German journalist and author. In 1968 he co-founded and until 1994 also headed the Cologne School of Journalism and worked as an unofficial employee for the GDR State Security .

In the Third Reich, Stuckmann was a member of the then illegal Bündische Jugend and volunteered for military service as a paratrooper in 1941.

In 1947 he was employed in the youth justice department of the city youth welfare office in Cologne. His journalistic career began in 1949 with the first articles for the Kölnische Rundschau . In 1962 he received the Theodor Wolff Prize for the best domestic political report. The discovery of the Nagold scandal , in which a German army recruit died in a paratrooper training company in 1963 as a result of harassing drill, can also be traced back to relevant publications by Stuckmann.

After working as a freelance journalist for trade union newspapers, the weekly newspaper Die Zeit and the Stern magazine , he took over the management of the Cologne School of Journalism in 1968. He owned the Schillingsrott estate in Cologne-Rodenkirchen , where the school was housed.

In 1994 Stuckmann was exposed as a former unofficial employee of the Ministry for State Security of the GDR , charged and sentenced to one year imprisonment on probation and a fine of 10,000 DM. Stuckmann is said to have had the main task of finding potential Stasi employees among the students at his school. He had "without hesitation put young people who had entrusted themselves to him for training in the danger of being recruited by the MfS ... A measurable damage due to the information he provided", but "did not arise".

In 2006 he published an autobiography in which he acknowledged his communist goals and justified his work for the Ministry of State Security.
