Heinz Günter Viehe (born June 17, 1929 in Bielefeld ; † October 2, 2010 in Beersel , Belgium ) was a German chemist ( organic chemistry ).

Viehe studied from 1949 at the TU Braunschweig (diploma 1953) and in Paris ( Sorbonne ), in 1955 he received his doctorate in Braunschweig . He was a post-graduate student at Harvard University . From 1956 to 1959 he was with Union Carbide Europe in Brussels . In 1965 he completed his habilitation in Nuremberg (hetero-substituted acetylenes). In 1969 he became a full professor of organic chemistry at the University of Leuven (later at the Université catholique de Louvain, which was founded in 1972 ).

He examined the influence of substituents on the reactivity of multiple bonds, the chemistry of acetylenes , cumulenes and radical reactions and is known for the first practicable syntheses of ynamines ( amines with alkynyl groups ) and ynamides (corresponding amides ) (1963). In 1977 he became a member of the Leopoldina .
