Heinz Janshen

Heinz Janshen (born May 29, 1934 in Loitz ) is a former officer of the border troops of the German Democratic Republic . Most recently he held the rank of major general .

Military career

The son of a worker did not learn a profession after attending school, which he completed in the 10th grade, and was initially a farm worker from 1948 to 1951. On December 10, 1951, he joined the armed organs of the GDR , where he was deployed until 1953, initially as a post leader at the control crossing point in Stralsund , later in Prerow . Then Janshen was a non-commissioned officer at a school in Dömitz . After their visit he rose from 1954 to 1956 to the group leader in the Grabow border readiness . In 1956 he joined the SED . From 1956 to 1957 he attended the officers' school in Sondershausen as an officer student . Subsequently, Janshen was platoon leader until 1960, later company commander of the 7th border readiness in the 1st border brigade. From 1961 to 1963 he was a company commander in the 7th Border Regiment in Wittenburg . Then he was in this regiment until 1971 commander of a boat group and then until 1973 commander of a boat division in the border regiment 8.

From 1973 to 1975 Janshen attended the NVA military academy in Dresden . After graduation, he rose to the position of deputy commander for training in Border Regiment 8. He held this position until 1976, after which he was commander of the 5th Border Training Regiment until 1979. From 1979 to 1980, Janshen initially held the position of deputy commanding officer for training and then until 1982 that of deputy commander and chief of staff in the southern border command. In 1982 he was appointed commander to succeed Major General Walter Tanner . Here on October 7, 1984, he was appointed major general. In 1987 he was appointed in this rank as the successor to Major General Harald Bär as commander of the officers' college of the border troops in Suhl . He held this position until his release on September 30, 1990. Since February 1984 he was a member of the SED district leadership in Erfurt.

In 1999, Janshen was sentenced to two years probation in a border trial.

Private

Janshen is the father of six children. Without exception, his three sons became officers.
