Heinz Keller (conservator)

Heinz Keller (born June 6, 1906 in Winterthur ; † May 21, 1984 ibid) was a Swiss conservator .

Keller was born the son of an engineer and his wife. He studied German and art history at the Universities of Zurich and Berlin and received his doctorate. From 1934 to 1944 he was an assistant teacher at the canton school in Winterthur. From 1934 to 1972 he was also the curator of the Kunstmuseum Winterthur and from 1949 to 1968 art editor of the Swiss monthly Werk . He campaigned for the art of classical modernism and organized exhibitions with works by u. a. Cuno Amiet , Paul Klee and Max Bill . For the Kunstmuseum Winterthur he bought an important collection on classical modernism, including works by Giorgio Morandi , Constantin Brancusi , Oskar Kokoschka , Hans Arp , Claude Monet and Antoni Tàpies . From 1951 to 1956 he was a member of the Federal Art Commission (EKK). For this he was sent to the Biennale di Venezia from 1952 to 1956 .
