Athletic career

Since 1949 , a team from the village of Marga, which was later incorporated into Senftenberg, played in the GDR league , the highest football class . For many years under the name Aktivist Brieske , the previous company sports association was restructured on September 1, 1954 into the SC Aktivist Brieske-Senftenberg . At the beginning of the transition round played in autumn 1955 to switch the football season to the calendar year, the 23-year-old Heinz Krüger joined the football team of the sports club, which had finished the previous season as sixth in the table. Kruger was used as a defender and quickly developed into the Briesker regular.

Already in the 1956 season he drew attention to himself with such good performances that the GDR national coach Gyarmati used him on March 10, 1957 in the A international match GDR - Luxembourg. In the 3-0 win in East Berlin, Heinz Krüger played alongside Bringfried Müller and Karl Wolf as right defender. However, since there was a large supply of good players in this position, Krüger stayed with this one international match.

At the end of the 1962/63 season, the SC activist had to relegate to the second-rate GDR league as bottom of the table after 15 years in the Oberliga . At the same time, the Senftenberger Sportclub was dissolved and transferred to the newly founded SC Cottbus . The first soccer team of the former SC activist also appeared as SC Cottbus in the 1963/64 soccer season. After 187 point games in the league, Krüger had to play in the second division. Meanwhile already 31 years old, he had already passed the peak of his performance and was only used in 13 point games in the seasons 1963/64 to 1964/65. In the summer of 1965 he ended his career as a competitive footballer.
