Bringfried Lothar Müller (born January 28, 1931 in Langenberg ; † April 10, 2016 ) was a soccer player and soccer coach in the GDR . As a player, he was three times GDR soccer champion and won the GDR soccer cup once . He was 18 times national team.

Athletic career

As a football player, Bringfried Müller was a center and full-back. He began his sporting career as a handball player at Traktor Langenberg and was active there as a youth player up to the men's class. In 1950 he moved first to Lok Gera, where he began his football career, and in 1951 to Motor Gera , from the 1952/53 season on Wismut Gera, where he first played in the young league eleven. By 1955 Müller played 51 games in the GDR league in Gera . In 1953 and 1954 he was used twice in the GDR junior national team and once in the B national team.

In 1955 he moved to SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt , later BSG Wismut Aue , and quickly made the leap to the GDR national soccer team . He made his debut in the international match against Romania on September 18, 1955 in Bucharest , which the GDR won 3-2. Overall, Müller came to 18 full internationals during his career. His last game in the national jersey of the GDR he played on December 11, 1960 in Casablanca against Morocco (3-2). With the Wismut team, Müller was GDR champion in 1956, 1957 and 1959 and GDR Cup winner in 1955 . His last league game he played on May 30, 1965 in Aue against Lok Stendal (1: 4) and thus came to another 236 league games. Overall, Müller played 287 games in the GDR league and scored two goals.

Immediately after the end of his playing career, Müller, who had trained as a coach at the DHfK Sports University between 1961 and 1965 , became head coach at Wismut Aue in July 1965. On November 10, 1967, he resigned from his post after disagreements with the club's leadership. From July 1, 1968, he coached FC Karl-Marx-Stadt , with whom he was relegated to the GDR league after the 1969/70 season. Despite the differences of 1967, Bringfried Müller was again head coach at Wismut Aue from July 23, 1971. His predecessor Gerhard Hofmann took over the coaching position at the top division newcomer FC Karl-Marx-Stadt. Until the end of the 1976/77 season, Bringfried Müller remained the responsible coach at Wismut and, given the circumstances under which BSG teams had to suffer, worked successfully with his assistant coaches Werner Heine and Armin Günther , which achieved a 6th place in 1976 culminated in the league.

Bringfried Müller was married to the successful figure skating coach Jutta Müller .
