Heinz Kurt Henisch

Heinz Kurt Henisch (born April 21, 1922 in Neudek , Czechoslovakia ; † March 21, 2006 ) was a German-American scientist , physicist , photographer and author .

Life

Heinz Kurt Henisch was born in Neudek in the Ore Mountains into a Jewish family of lawyers . His father was Dr. Leo Henisch, anti-fascist and functionary of the German Social Democratic Party .

After attending primary school in Neudek and high school in Karlsbad , the family fled to England in 1938 . Henisch studied there at the Universities of Bristol and Reading . During World War II he worked at the Aviation Institute for testing electronic components. After the end of the war he was engaged in research into semiconductors .

Henisch wrote his doctoral thesis in 1949 and became a professor of physics. In 1963 he went to State University in Pennsylvania . There he began to deal with the history of photography in addition to physics and founded his own subject there . Henisch received his second doctorate and second professorship for the history of photography there. He published around 200 specialist articles.

After his death, some of his ashes were scattered in the Neudeker cemetery.

Honors

A memorial plaque was unveiled on July 16, 2007 at his birthplace in Neudek.
