Heinz Leuzinger

Heinz Leuzinger (born March 25, 1940 in Glarus ; † October 13, 2007 ) was a Swiss mountaineer , mountain guide and mountain painter .

Life

Heinz Leuzinger grew up in Glarus , he trained as a baker-confectioner. At the end of the fifties of the last century, he was one of the «young wild animals» of the Glarus climbing scene and was a member of the Alpstein climbing club . As an extreme climber, he managed difficult routes in eastern and central Switzerland and in the Dolomites as well as some of the great north faces of the Alps . With a group of Glarus mountaineers, he managed the first winter ascent of the Röti-Couloir in the northeast face of the Tödi in January 1969 .

After completing his mountain guide diploma, he became an instructor at the Andermatt Mountain Combat School . In this role he developed into an expert in mountain rescue , avalanche science and meteorology . As a radiator he had a large collection of crystals and as a paraglider he was one of the pioneers.

He started painting at the age of 45, developed into a well-known mountain painter and became a member of the Swiss Mountain Painters Guild . His life's work includes a large number of watercolors, pencil and ink drawings. His special trademark are large-format acrylic paintings of many mountains and mountain views in Switzerland.

On behalf of the army, he edited and illustrated two illustrated books.
