Heinz Joachim Manchen ( May 2, 1931 in Bremen - March 20, 1978 there ) was a German rower . He won an Olympic silver medal in 1952 .

In 1952, Heinz Manchen formed a new twos with a helmsman together with Helmut Heinhold and helmsman Helmut Noll . This boat from the Vegesack rowing club immediately won the German championship title ahead of the Duisburg defending champions Müller, Brinkmann and Funke. The three Bremen guys qualified for the 1952 Olympic rowing regatta in Meilahti , a district of Helsinki. There two German boats reached the final. The eighth finished fifth, while the two was only defeated by the French Raymond Salles , Gaston Mercier and Bernard Malivoire and thus won silver.

In 1953 Manchen and Heinhold won the German championship together with the helmsman Otto Nordmeyer before the Duisburgers. At the European Championships in Copenhagen in 1953, they were defeated by the French boat, in which none of the 1952 Olympic champions sat. In 1954, Manchen and Heinhold won their third German championship title in a row, this time being driven by Hans Zander. In 1956 the two took third place in the German championship together with helmsman Heinz-Georg Oehlers.

For his sporting success he was awarded the silver bay leaf on October 27, 1952 .
