In 1952 Helmut Heinhold formed together with Heinz Manchen and helmsman Helmut Noll a new twos with a helmsman . This boat from the Vegesack rowing club immediately won the German championship title ahead of the Duisburg defending champions Müller, Brinkmann and Funke. At the European Championships in Copenhagen in 1953, they were defeated by the French boat, in which none of the 1952 Olympic champions sat. In 1954, Manchen and Heinhold won their third German championship title in a row, this time being driven by Hans Zander. In 1956 the two took third place in the German championship together with helmsman Heinz-Georg Oehlers.

In the following years Heinhold joined the rowing company Wiesbaden-Biebrich , and from 1957 to 1959 took third place three times in the German eighth championship.
