Heinz Roth

Heinz Roth (born July 13, 1931 in Mittelschmalkalden ) was a German officer in the Ministry for State Security (MfS) of the GDR . He was head of Department XII (Central Information / Storage) of the MfS.

Life

Heinz Roth was born in Mittelschmalkalden (Thuringia) in 1931. His father was a core maker , his mother a housewife. After attending elementary school, Roth completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter from 1945 to 1949, but then took up a job with the People's Police (VP). In 1952 he attended the school of the Barracked People's Police (KVP). In 1953 he joined the SED and became an adjutant in the political administration of the KVP. Later he was political deputy of the II. Company of the II. Strausberg II department of the KVP as well as political deputy of the guard department in Strausberg II. From 1955 to 1956 he attended the political officers' school of the NVA .

He was then employed by the MfS in Berlin. There he initially worked in the area of ​​Main Department (HA) I (military defense). He completed a three-year distance learning course at the University of the Ministry of State Security (JHS) in 1964 as a qualified lawyer with a thesis on the subject of “The political, economic and military importance of the administration of surveying and mapping (VVK) of the Ministry of the Interior and its subordinate institutions . The tasks and possibilities of qualifying the political-operational work, in particular counter-espionage, in this administration and its subordinate institutions ” . In 1964 he was transferred to HA VII (MdI / DVP). There he became deputy director in 1969. In 1975, after a collective dissertation with eight other MfS officers, he received the title of Dr. jur. The topic of the dissertation was the "organization of the prevention, education and prevention of illegal leaving the GDR as well as anti-state trafficking in human beings" . In 1976 he was promoted to colonel and in 1980 took over the management of Department XII of the MfS. As such, he was responsible for the registration and verification of persons, the management of the central identity card of the MfS, the registration of files and operational processes as well as for the archiving of the MfS documents. Heinz Roth was released in 1990 in the course of the fall of the Berlin Wall .
