Life

Heinz Roy grew up in Upper Lusatia . Sorbian influences form the basis of his musical work. After fleeing from captivity in 1945, Roy became a teacher in Brandenburg / Havel . After Lodenau added, he found in Fritz Reuter a conveyor and teachers without the dualistic theory of polar Music Reger student or the "Practical harmony of the 20th century" dogmatized his own style. Roy worked as a composer and as a music teacher, and in 1989 he became the rector and mayor of Klitten . In 1992 he resigned from school after two heart attacks.

Services / works

Sorbian influences can be found in the Three Sonnets for Soprano and Piano op. 65 based on texts by the national poet Jakub Bart-Ćišinski , the Sorbian Dances op. 49 or the Concerto grosso based on Sorbian folk songs op. 57 as well as choral works that also take up GDR-related themes .

Religiously motivated works are of particular importance , for example the "Lusatian Mass" op. 125, entitled "Credo", a "Requiem" whose "Dona nobis pacem" is "a request to divine providence for peace". Of Roy's five symphonies , the “Fifth”, with the motto “Stalingrad”, is committed to coping with the experiences of war. Concerts and variations based on themes round off the compositional spectrum.
