Heinz Schürmann (theologian)
Heinz Schürmann (born January 18, 1913 in Bochum ; † December 11, 1999 in Erfurt ) was a Roman Catholic theologian and New Testament scholar .
Life
Heinz Schürmann studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Paderborn and Tübingen from 1932 to 1937 and was ordained a priest in Paderborn on April 2, 1938. Until 1946 he worked as a pastor in the diaspora communities of Bernburg (Saale) , Osterwieck (Harz) and Nienburg (Saale) . A call as prefect of the archbishop's theological convict in Bad Driburg was followed by a doctorate under Max Meinertz in 1948 with the thesis The editorial work of Evangelist Lukas on the Last Supper report , the habilitation in 1952 and in 1953 the call to the newly founded Philosophical-Theological Study in Erfurt . His students include the retired Bishop Joachim Wanke and the Erfurt New Testament scholar Claus-Peter März . In 1978 Schürmann retired. He was a peritus of the council and a member of the International Theological Commission and Consultor of the Pontifical Biblical Commission . He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Universities of Bochum, Paderborn, Leuven, Uppsala, Aberdeen, Vienna and Strasbourg. The " Ring of Honor of the Görres Society " was awarded to Schürmann in 1995.
