Heinz Welzel

Heinz Welzel (born May 30, 1911 in Berlin-Siemensstadt ; † March 26, 2002 in Berlin ) was a German actor and voice actor .

Life

Welzel was the son of a projectionist ; his parents owned a small cinema in Berlin. After graduating from high school, he began studying law. After only two semesters, however, he turned to acting and from 1932 attended the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Berlin. In the same year he made his stage debut in Gera; there he was also active as a singer. Other theater stations were Dresden (1933/1934 season at the Komödienhaus Dresden) and Vienna (1942; Theater in der Josefstadt ). In 1941 he was called up for military service, but was released after a serious illness.

In the year of his stage debut, Welzel also took on the first film role ( tenant Schulze against all ). Until 1943 he worked in many UFA productions, including the disaster film Titanic , the socially critical drama Friedrich Schiller - Triumph of a Genius (with Horst Caspar in the title role), but also in five tendentious war films by director Karl Ritter .

After 1945, Welzel returned to the stage and was engaged , among other things, at the Lübeck Theater (season 1945/1946). From 1946 he played theater in Berlin, at the Schlosspark Theater (1948–1950), ( Hebbel am Ufer ) and at the Renaissance Theater (season 1952/1953). In addition, he rarely appeared in film productions, u. a. in the Karl May film adaptation Winnetou and Shatterhand in the valley of the dead . Instead, he was seen in numerous television productions (including as chairman of the court in the series Amtsgericht , 1957, and in the crime series Private Detective Harry Holl , 1963).

In addition, as a broadcaster (Welzel worked NWDR , SFB , RIAS ) and lent a voice- his voice u. a. Leif Erickson ( Fist in the Neck ), Arthur O'Connell (The Woman in the Golden Cadillac), Walter Rilla ( Queen Victoria ) and William Windom ( Who Bothered the Nightingale ).
