Heinz Wings
Heinz Wings (born January 30, 1952 in Eschweiler - Dürwiß ) is a former German bank manager. He is considered one of the pioneers in the development of online banking in Europe .
Career
Heinz Wings completed an apprenticeship as a banker at today's Sparkasse Düren . He then completed a business degree at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . This was followed by positions in the planning staff of Nord / LB and in the extended management of Bankhaus Partin .
In 1987, Heinz Wings was appointed to the management board of Sparda-Bank Hamburg , and from 1999 to January 2015 as its chairman. One focus of his work there was the development of electronic payments. Sparda-Bank Hamburg was the first bank in Germany to offer current accounts on the Internet. For the first time, the bank also introduced chip-based external security systems for data transmission. In 1998 Wings was the initiator of Netbank , Europe's first pure internet bank. He was the first chairman of the board and long-time chairman of the supervisory board (July 2000 to November 2015).
In 1999, Wings received his doctorate from the computer science department of the University of Regensburg with a thesis on innovative bank management strategies.
Heinz Wings has been retired since February 1st, 2015.
