Helen Kasser

Helen Kasser , née Helen Wettstein (born March 31, 1913 in Erstfeld , † March 13, 2000 in Herrliberg ), was a Swiss artist.

Life

Helen Kasser, a citizen of Zurich, grew up in Erstfeld in the canton of Uri as the daughter of a senior official of the Swiss Federal Railways. From 1929 she graduated from the Zurich School of Applied Arts , where she studied with Ernst Gubler , Otto Meyer-Amden , Otto Morach and Walter Roshardt until 1933 . In 1934 and 1937 she stayed in Paris and southern France for study purposes . Wettstein married the photographer and editor Hans Kasser in 1932 . From 1952 the couple lived in Herrliberg.

She worked as a freelance graphic artist and painter, where she designed tempera paintings , drawings, lithographs , illustrations and collages in a moderate expressionism .

Kasser illustrated several children's books for the Zurich publishing house Artemis and numerous SJW magazines . Her works were presented in solo exhibitions in 1951 in the foyer of the Schauspielhaus Zürich , in 1953 in the Städtisches Museum Amsterdam , since 1960 in group exhibitions, often with the Zurich artists' association Graphica , and regularly in Herrliberg from 1973 to 1998.

When the Herrliberg Transport and Improvement Association founded the Vogtei Gallery in 1975 , Kasser was part-time co-supervisor of this institution.

The estate, together with that of her husband, is kept in the Zurich Central Library.
