Hans Kasser (born November 8, 1907 in Aarwangen , † October 20, 1978 in Männedorf ) was a Swiss photographer and editor .

Life

Kasser completed an apprenticeship at the Zurich School of Applied Arts , after which he went to Paris to study . Between 1934 and 1938 he lived in Bern , later in Zurich until 1952 , after which he settled in Herrliberg . Numerous trips took him through Switzerland and many parts of Europe. As a freelance commercial graphic artist, he designed company logos and participated in exhibitions. He also worked as an editor of books, brochures, catalogs and leaflets, occasionally his role was that of a journalist , illustrator or photographer . In 1944 he co-founded Graphis magazine together with Walter Herdeg and Walter Amstutz . In 1946, with the architect Hans Leuzinger , he set up the Freuler Palace in Näfels as the Museum of the State of Glarus and the technological collection in the Museum zu Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen .

From 1952, Kasser worked for 20 years as an editor for the Revue Schweiz / Suisse / Svizzera at the Swiss Traffic Center . For the visual appearance, he endeavored not only to publish existing images of existing works, but also asked cultural workers for original contributions, i.e. from photographers for photographs, from composers, musicians and writers for autographs, from artists for graphics, illustrations and vignettes. The numerous correspondence and extensive collection of autographs in the estate attest to this practice. It provided the authors with additional income and thus made the revue more attractive.

As a freelancer, Kasser also worked for various newspapers and magazines, such as the NZZ and the Du . In addition, he dealt with painting, his motifs are the landscape and architecture. He collected graphics, folk art sheets, furniture and sculptures, and he was involved in the Herrliberg Transport and Improvement Association.

Hans Kasser was married to the artist Helen Kasser from Erstfeld since 1932 . Both bequests are kept in the Zurich Central Library, with the exception of Hans Kasser's photographic part, which is held by the Swiss Photo Foundation .
