Helen Louise Brownson
Helen Louise Brownson ( May 1, 1917 - August 5, 2017 ) was an American documentary writer . She is considered a pioneer in information science .
Life
From 1942 to 1946 Brownson worked for the Office of Scientific Research and Development , then from 1946 to 1951 at the Research and Development Board of the United States Department of Defense , both headed by Vannevar Bush .
Then Brownson was employed from 1951 to 1966 in the National Science Foundation (NSF), where she worked from 1958 as program director for the Office of Scientific Information . Her successor at NSF was Burt Adkinson . Until her retirement in 1970, she worked in the research department of the American intelligence service Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
She co-founded the Annual Review of Information Science and Technology (ARIST).
