Helene von Bolváry , b. Ilona [von] Mattyasovszky , (born April 1, 1889 in Esztergom , Austria-Hungary , † April 13, 1943 in Budakeszi , Hungary ) was a Hungarian actress .

Life

Ilona Mattyasovszky was born in Esztergom to wealthy parents. She attended a secondary school for girls in Budapest and was married against her will at the age of 17. After the divorce from her first husband, Mattyasovszky graduated from the Budapest Stage Academy. Theater engagements in the province and in Budapest followed.

Mattyasovszky came to film in 1915 and made her screen debut in Der Dorflump (A falu rossza) . Over 60 films followed in Hungary, including several films directed by Géza von Bolváry , with whom she was married from 1921. Both founded a theater and film school in Hungary in 1921, but left the country the following year and worked first in Vienna and later in Munich . Helene von Bolváry also shot in France, Austria and Germany. She did not succeed in gaining a foothold in talkies. She died in Budakeszi in 1943.
