Helios is a fungus- resistant white wine variety bred in 1973 . Helios is at State Weinbauinstitut Freiburg by Norbert Becker from the varieties Merzling (as parent variety, ♀), and Seyve Villard 12-481 and Müller-Thurgau (as father places ♂) crossed . He is officially marked with the breeding line FR 242-73. The Plant Variety Protection was requested.
The name "Helios" is derived from the sun god, who helps the variety to achieve good sugar performance.

Properties of the vine
The leaves are medium-sized, three-lobed and intensely green. The grapes are medium in size. Budding, flowering and the beginning of ripening occur roughly at the same time as the Müller-Thurgau variety. The frost resistance is considered good to very good. The location requirements are relatively low.
