Hellmut from Cube

Hellmut von Cube (born December 31, 1907 in Stuttgart , † September 29, 1979 in Munich ) was a German writer and author of radio plays.

Life

Hellmut von Cube came from the German-Baltic noble family von Cube of Brandenburg origin. His father was the well-known naturalist, doctor and mountaineer Felix Alexander von Cube (1876–1964). His older brother was the journalist Walter von Cube (1906-1984). He spent his childhood and school days at Tegernsee , in Stuttgart and in Munich. From his father, as von Cube himself stated, he inherited a longing for distant lands; this longing was complemented by the ability to look at nature in great detail and often lovingly. His little animal sketch book , with which he made his debut in 1935, is evidence of this observation. Also in the mushroom heap - a guide for mushroom admirers and mushroom eaters - Cube's enthusiasm for living things comes to the fore.

After studying German in Berlin and Munich, Hellmut von Cube also made a name for himself as a poet, essayist and columnist. Since the 1960s, alongside James Krüss , Juliane Metzger and Jella Lepman, he was a sponsor of the Domino Verlag , founded by the publisher Günther Brinek, which was supposed to implement the concerns of the Domino Association for the promotion of valuable youth literature .

Von Cube was married to the English scholar and translator Nanette von Cube, the daughter of the historian Karl Brandi .
