Hellmuth Hauser

Hellmuth Hauser (born February 24, 1916 in Berlin ; † September 5, 2004 in Grünwald ) was a German officer , most recently lieutenant general in the Bundeswehr . From 1970 to 1974 he was the commanding general of the Air Force Support Command .

Life

Hauser served as an air force officer in the Balkans, Crete and the Soviet Union during World War II . As a captain and squadron captain of 1./Kampfgeschwader 51 “Edelweiss” he was awarded the German Cross in Gold on September 9, 1942 and the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on December 23, 1942 .

After the war he entered on May 2, 1956 as Major i. G. joined the newly established Bundeswehr. In 1964 he was promoted to brigadier general. From 1968 to 1970 he was a lieutenant general of the German representative on the NATO military committee . In his last military service, he was from October 11, 1970 to September 30, 1974, the first commanding general of the Air Force Support Command .

Hauser brought the Schneider case to light in the early 1970s . Shortly before the end of the war, Schneider denounced two comrades for " defeatist " statements that could be saved from the death sentence through the courageous intervention of a superior.
