Paul Haeffner

Paul Haeffner (born June 21, 1917 ; † May 29, 2006 in Bad Krozingen ) was a German officer in the army of the Wehrmacht and later an air force officer and lieutenant general in the Bundeswehr .

Paul Haeffner already served as an officer in the Wehrmacht . At the beginning of September 1938 he was promoted to lieutenant , at that time belonging to the Panzer Pioneer Battalion 79 (then Pioneer Battalion 79 ). In February 1942 he was awarded the German Cross in Gold with the rank of First Lieutenant . As a captain , he commanded the Panzer Pioneer Battalion Hermann Göring , which was newly set up in the winter of 1942/1943 , whose name was changed shortly afterwards to Fallschirm-Panzer-Pionier-Bataillon 1 Hermann Göring ( Parachute Panzer Division 1 Hermann Göring ) from December 1942 to January 1944. With his promotion to major in October 1943, he became a staff officer .

Haeffner was in the Bundeswehr from 1964 to 1966 as Colonel  i. G. Chief of Staff of the 2nd Air Force Division in Karlsruhe and from October 1, 1969 to March 31, 1973 with the rank of Brigadier General, head of the Air Force Materials Office . He was then commander of the Air Force Support Group South in Karlsruhe until the end of September .

With his appointment as lieutenant general, he was from October 1, 1974 to September 30, 1977 in his last military service, commanding general of the Air Force Support Command .

After retirement

After his retirement, Haeffner lived in Staufen im Breisgau and was a member of the Breisgau history association Schau-ins-Land . He died in Bad Krozingen, where he was buried after his death on June 8, 2006.
