Helmut Ballot
Helmut Ballot (born August 1, 1917 in Berlin , † September 5, 1988 in Düsseldorf ) was a German writer .
Life
Helmut Ballot came from a Huguenot family . He grew up in Berlin; after attending secondary school , he went to sea as a sailor for a while . When he had to give up this job for health reasons, he completed an apprenticeship as an export merchant . From 1939 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier in the Wehrmacht . After his return from captivity , Ballot, who lived in Düsseldorf from 1964 , worked as a businessman in the tool and large machine trade. In addition, he wrote books for young people , mostly with nautical topics. His greatest success, the crime story Das Haus der Krokodile , was adapted as a six-part television play in 1975 and as a children's film in 2012 .
