Helmut Bechert

Helmut Bechert (born January 1, 1933 in Allenstein , East Prussia ) is a German officer. He was a colonel and head of department in the Ministry for State Security (MfS) of the GDR .

Life

The son of a car mechanic closed in 1956 to study at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig as a diploma - a journalist from. In 1956 he joined the SED and was hired by the MfS in the agitation department . In 1971 Bechert became deputy head and in 1975 head of the agitation department. In 1976 he was at the Law School of the Stasi in Potsdam-Eiche to Dr. jur. PhD and in 1977 reached the rank of colonel. From 1985 to 1989, Bechert was a special officer and deputy head of the press department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR .
